Civil War Commission to Sponsor Lecture by Acclaimed Author August 25

ITHACA, N.Y., Aug. 19 -- Tompkins County issued the following news release:
Well-known author and artist Stephen Poleskie will tell about the man
called "the most shot-at man during the Civil War" during a lecture
cosponsored by the Tompkins County Civil War Sesquicentennial
Commission on Thursday, August 25.
Mr. Poleskie will conduct a reading and signing of his book, ""The
Balloonist: The Story of T.S.C. Lowe ---Inventor, Scientist, Magician
and Father of the U.S. Air Force" at the Tompkins County Public Library
Borg Warner Room, 101 E. Green Street, Ithaca, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The lecture, second in a series sponsored by the Civil War Commission, is cosponsored by the Tompkins County Public Library.
"The Balloonist" is the first full-length biography of Thaddeus Lowe ,
who is best known for organizing the Civil War's Army of the Potomac
Stephen Poleskie is an artist, writer and photographer. His art can be
found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum and the Museum of
Modern Art in New York City and the Victoria and Albert Museum in
London. He has taught or served as a visiting professor in 27 colleges
and art schools throughout the world, and his writing has appeared in
countless journals and reviews. He is a former Pushcart Prize nominee
and has completed five full-length novels.
The August 25th lecture is free and open to the public. Copies of "The
Balloonist. . ." will be available for purchase at the event.
